Ort: Ponderosa, Gutshof 3, 16248 Lunow-Stolzenhagen This is a weeklong Contact Improvisation* intensive from 16–23 July, 2023 led by Sarah Young and Angela-Mara Florant. [Weekend-only participation is also possible.] Sourcing research of Nancy Stark Smith, Steve Paxton, and decades of practice in the form, we will build on practical physical studies and ways of tuning our awareness to open into the unknowns of spontaneous dance-making. We’ll start the day with dropping into subtle physical choice-making through the Feldenkrais Method® and Contemplative Dance Practice. Then, the later morning will be a dive into the study of physical mechanics, momentum, gravity, weight-sharing, rolling, spiraling, and falling; our reflexes at work in Contact Improvisation. In the afternoons, we’ll experiment with physical predicaments and scores for shaping individual and collective attention. The evenings will be for jamming, viewing dance films, relaxing in the sauna, and conversations under the stars. During the weekend, additional dancers will join us and morning classes will continue. There will be an Underscore with live music and an experiential Talk-Through beforehand, jams and group scores, one-on-ones and time for swimming, walks, and enjoying the summer in the countryside. This intensive is for anyone wanting a facilitated intensive study of Contact Improvisation and is best suited for those with, at least, some CI jam or class experience. You should already know how to reach your hands towards the floor when falling and be responsive to your own self-care needs. We ask that you come ready to contribute positively and collaboratively to the group dynamic. We will overlap with P.O.R.C.H. Week 2 with Abby Crain, Mor Dermer, and Márcio Kerber Canabarro and P.O.R.C.H. The Tools offered cultivate different modes of attention within the perceptual / sensorial / visual / kinesthetic mindbody to be shared in a compositional space. The co-creation in the present time takes place and reveals a diversity of possible and potential relationships. It allows a study of the senses and their role in the organization of the bodies in movement, making us aware of how our own dance, the group and the environment are affected, informed and transformed according to the choices we make. Creating bridges and opening doors as pathways to access and to make available our bodies and its senses, we will nourish our dances. *CONTENT* *CI* We will plunge into it’s principles: the reflexive body, spherical space, qualities of touch, diversifying the mosaic of sensations, shared weight, modulation of tone, deep listening, availability, readyness, risk taking and response-ability. *IMPROVISATION* We will explore its specific relation to Time: unison, synchronicity, delay, etc. We will attend to its specific relation to Space: environment, architecture, materiality, immateriality… We will strengthen our solo dance. We will develop our capacity to collaborate and co-create within a group. *COMPOSITION* We will play with sensing/feeling/observing the organization of our senses, of the inner and outer space, as well as the emerging and evolving interrelationships that will reveal. We will expand our ability of seeing with the eyes, seeing with the body and other ways of seeing. We will compose/take position with our bodies, the material and the physical space. With and through these three lenses we will dance, watch, report, write and draw considering all these activities as ways to share our imaginaries, experiences and research. **Festival ****Contact Improvisation ****En ****Provence – ****Rustrel****(****France - ****Provence) – ****July ****15-21 2023 - VI****I********EDITION ** *VII edition of the Festival de Danse Contact Improvisation de la Provence*, in Rustrel, one of the most beautiful villages in France, located north of Apt and at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse. A unique opportunity of immersion for 7 days, for 35 participants, to experience an exploration of dance and movement with quality workshops, jams, live music and many other proposals to share. *Festival philosophy* This festival was born from an initiative between a brother and a sister and their passion for dance. Mercè Nebot, who has lived in French Provence for 20 years, and Pep Nebot, who lives in Barcelona, have joined forces to create this space for sharing dance, creation and beauty. At each edition, people of different nationalities have gathered for the Festival, in particular from France and Spain, but each year other nationalities join us, which is very enriching and allows the establishment of a cultural bridge around art, dance and creativity. In this festival we want to prioritize some approaches: * Quality pedagogy in Contact Improvisation dance to promote better body awareness; * Welcoming a small group that will live together for a week an intimate and profound human adventure. Here there is a short synthesis: Salle Rustrel1 * Elske Seidel – (Germany): Morning intensive. Based in Berlin, is a passionate CI dancer & teacher, deeply committed to CI and its community internationally. She has been teaching dance full time and wholeheartedly for 30 years, and specifically Contact Improvisation since 2004. * Elise Malafosse – (France) : Evening Intensive. In 2014, I was struck in front of a Contact Improvisation jam! Years of experiences already oriented towards motion and touch (communication and semiotic study at university, dance, yoga, massage) facilitate my way to the practice. While I am discovering CI, I meet new body and somatic practices (Body-Mind Centering, Feldenkrais, Alexander, Rolfing, Axis Syllabus, Gaga, Playfight…). And with Body-Mind Centering, I travel deeply for 6 years, trusting the intelligence of the animal body and moving from sensing, instinct, intuition! * Sébastien Prats (France): Vocal practice and jam music. Self-taught author, composer and performer for more than 20 years, Sébastien Prats offers an artistic originality that transcends borders.
